  <body>
    <p>Nos &#250;ltimos anos, o avan&#231;o das tecnologias digitais (TD) revolucionou diversos setores, e a sa&#250;de n&#227;o &#233; uma exce&#231;&#227;o. Ferramentas digitais como aplicativos de monitoramento, plataformas de telemedicina e at&#233; o uso de wearables permitem que indiv&#237;duos sejam protagonistas do seu autocuidado.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">1</xref></p>
    <p>Para as mulheres, essas inova&#231;&#245;es tecnol&#243;gicas oferecem um potencial particularmente transformador, contribuindo para a supera&#231;&#227;o de barreiras hist&#243;ricas no acesso aos cuidados de sa&#250;de, agora na palma da m&#227;o, e para promo&#231;&#227;o da sua sa&#250;de e preven&#231;&#227;o do agravamento de doen&#231;as. O recente relat&#243;rio da Organiza&#231;&#227;o Mundial da Sa&#250;de destaca que estas ferramentas podem melhorar as informa&#231;&#245;es essenciais e o acesso a servi&#231;os vitais de sa&#250;de, e apoiar a sa&#250;de materna, promovendo assim a igualdade de g&#234;nero e a autonomia das mulheres na gest&#227;o da sua sa&#250;de, especialmente em regi&#245;es onde o acesso pode ser limitado devido a barreiras socioecon&#244;micas ou culturais.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B2">2</xref></p>
    <p>A crescente digitaliza&#231;&#227;o da assist&#234;ncia m&#233;dica apresenta uma oportunidade &#250;nica para preencher essas lacunas, com o desenvolvimento de ferramentas digitais adaptadas &#224;s necessidades das mulheres, denominadas de "FemTech" (female technology). No entanto, embora tenham um potencial de preencher v&#225;rias lacunas no que tange tanto os determinantes sociais em sa&#250;de, quanto a preven&#231;&#227;o prim&#225;ria e secund&#225;ria,<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">1</xref> melhorando a autogest&#227;o em sa&#250;de, encontramos barreiras significativas para sua implementa&#231;&#227;o, especialmente pelos fatores socioecon&#244;micos, e o desafio do letramento digital para a plena ado&#231;&#227;o da sa&#250;de digital (SD) com mobilidade.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B2">2</xref></p>
    <p>O mercado de FemTech mostrou crescimento significativo nos &#250;ltimos anos. Em 2019, a ind&#250;stria gerou aproximadamente 820 milh&#245;es de d&#243;lares em receita global e atraiu 592 milh&#245;es de d&#243;lares em investimentos. As proje&#231;&#245;es indicam que o mercado pode alcan&#231;ar US$ 1,1 bilh&#227;o em 2024, refletindo um crescente interesse em atender as demandas femininas.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">3</xref></p>
    <p>No contexto da sa&#250;de feminina, as TD v&#227;o al&#233;m de facilitar o acesso a servi&#231;os m&#233;dicos. S&#227;o ferramentas que oferecem oportunidades &#237;mpares de empoderamento, bem como do estabelecimento de redes de apoio no cuidado e orienta&#231;&#227;o em sa&#250;de, inclusive com outros pa&#237;ses. Aumentam a autonomia das mulheres, melhorando sua capacidade de tomada de decis&#227;o, facilitando pr&#225;ticas de autocuidado e sistemas de automonitoramento personalizados, incluindo o acesso facilitado a programas de triagem, mudan&#231;as de estilo de vida e maior envolvimento no dom&#237;nio de sa&#250;de pessoal. Assim, permitem que a mulher tome decis&#245;es mais conscientes sobre sa&#250;de, desde o planejamento familiar at&#233; a gest&#227;o de condi&#231;&#245;es cr&#244;nicas, passando pelo gerenciamento emocional e financeiro.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B2">2</xref></p>
    <p>A SD tamb&#233;m tem o potencial de mitigar desigualdades regionais e socioecon&#244;micas que historicamente impactam negativamente a sa&#250;de das mulheres. No Brasil, onde uma significativa parcela da popula&#231;&#227;o enfrenta dificuldades no acesso a cuidados de sa&#250;de, as ferramentas digitais se destacam como solu&#231;&#245;es eficazes e de relativo baixo custo pelo acesso por dispositivos m&#243;veis j&#225; utilizados em diferentes classes sociais. Exemplos disso s&#227;o o atendimento m&#233;dico ou multiprofissional remoto e oriundo de grandes institui&#231;&#245;es de ensino e servi&#231;o de excel&#234;ncia dentro do Sistema &#218;nico de Sa&#250;de (SUS) brasileiro, especialmente relevantes em &#225;reas remotas ou marginalizadas, onde podem facilitar o acesso a cuidados de sa&#250;de essenciais, como consultas pr&#233;-natais e controle de doen&#231;as cr&#244;nicas.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B4">4</xref> Ademais, as ferramentas como a incorpora&#231;&#227;o da Intelig&#234;ncia Artificial (IA) nos processos, os prontu&#225;rios eletr&#244;nicos e o rastreio digital de dados de sa&#250;de permitem que os sistemas de sa&#250;de identifiquem padr&#245;es populacionais e implementem interven&#231;&#245;es mais eficazes e direcionadas, com foco na equidade de g&#234;nero.</p>
    <p>O uso de TD mostrou grande inova&#231;&#227;o na preven&#231;&#227;o e diagn&#243;stico precoce de doen&#231;as que afetam particularmente as mulheres, como o c&#226;ncer de mama e de colo do &#250;tero. Ferramentas de IA e Machine Learning s&#227;o capazes de analisar grandes volumes de dados para identificar sinais precoces de doen&#231;as, com uma precis&#227;o cada vez maior.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B5">5</xref> Adicionalmente, os aplicativos de medita&#231;&#227;o, plataformas de suporte psicol&#243;gico e ferramentas de mindfulness s&#227;o cada vez mais acess&#237;veis, ajudando mulheres a lidarem com o estresse, ansiedade, depress&#227;o e quest&#245;es relacionadas ao bem-estar que impactam na sa&#250;de mental e cardiovascular.</p>
    <p>No cen&#225;rio de sa&#250;de do Brasil, as TD t&#234;m um papel crucial na expans&#227;o do acesso e na melhoria da qualidade da aten&#231;&#227;o prim&#225;ria &#224; sa&#250;de da mulher. Se integradas aos servi&#231;os b&#225;sicos de sa&#250;de, podem ajudar a superar desafios estruturais e promover a equidade no cuidado em diferentes especialidades m&#233;dicas. Algumas evid&#234;ncias sugerem que as consultas mais direcionadas ao problema da mulher melhoram a promo&#231;&#227;o da sa&#250;de, a capacita&#231;&#227;o do paciente para o automonitoramento, a qualidade da manuten&#231;&#227;o de registro, al&#233;m de ser um facilitador de diagn&#243;sticos mais precisos.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B6">6</xref></p>
    <p>Embora as TD ofere&#231;am in&#250;meras oportunidades, a privacidade, a seguran&#231;a e a confidencialidade dos dados das usu&#225;rias devem ser garantidas de acordo com a Lei Geral de Prote&#231;&#227;o de Dados, de forma a proteger informa&#231;&#245;es sens&#237;veis.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B7">7</xref>-<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B9">9</xref></p>
    <p>Outro ponto a se considerar s&#227;o as barreiras na implementa&#231;&#227;o relacionadas &#224; parte estrutural (a Estrat&#233;gia de Governo Digital est&#225; em franca implementa&#231;&#227;o e o Programa SUS Digital Brasil teve a ades&#227;o de 100% dos munic&#237;pios), falta de capacita&#231;&#227;o profissional (letramento digital do profissionais e trabalhadores do SUS), falta de integra&#231;&#227;o entre sistemas de sa&#250;de (em processo de implementa&#231;&#227;o pela Rede Nacional de Dados em Sa&#250;de do SUS), custo operacional, e as barreiras relacionadas aos pr&#243;prios pacientes (baixa educa&#231;&#227;o em sa&#250;de, desigualdade socioecon&#244;mica, resist&#234;ncia cultural e social, falta de conhecimento claro sobre os benef&#237;cios da SD e letramento digital). Consolidar o processo de implementa&#231;&#227;o como uma etapa sequencial e cont&#237;nua da gest&#227;o de tecnologias &#233; uma a&#231;&#227;o necess&#225;ria para transpor essas barreiras.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B10">10</xref></p>
    <p>No horizonte da SD, tecnologias emergentes como a realidade aumentada e a realidade virtual t&#234;m potencial para mudar a forma como as mulheres interagem com os cuidados de sa&#250;de. Essas ferramentas podem ser usadas, por exemplo, para simula&#231;&#245;es de procedimentos m&#233;dicos, treinamentos em sa&#250;de sexual e reprodutiva, ou at&#233; mesmo como suporte terap&#234;utico em tratamentos de sa&#250;de mental.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">1</xref>,<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B2">2</xref></p>
    <p>Desse modo, as TD apresentam um enorme potencial para revolucionar a sa&#250;de da mulher, promovendo acesso, equidade de g&#234;nero e empoderamento. A <xref ref-type="fig" rid="f1">Figura 1</xref> destaca o impacto potencial do mercado "FemTech", com suas vantagens e desafios. No entanto, para que as TD atinjam seu potencial pleno na sa&#250;de da mulher, &#233; necess&#225;rio coordenar esfor&#231;os que envolvam academia, governo, institui&#231;&#245;es de sa&#250;de, profissionais e popula&#231;&#227;o em geral <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B11">11</xref> para vencer as barreiras culturais, de infraestrutura e de educa&#231;&#227;o digital, permitindo acesso a todas as mulheres, independente de sua localiza&#231;&#227;o geogr&#225;fica ou condi&#231;&#227;o socioecon&#244;mica.</p>

    <body>
      <p>Over the last years, advances in digital technology (DT) have revolutionized various sectors, and health is not an exception. Digital tools including monitoring devices, telemedicine platforms and even wearables have enabled individuals to be responsible for their self-care.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">1</xref></p>
      <p>These technological innovations are particularly transformative for women, contributing to overcome a historical barrier to access to health care (now in the palm of their hands), and also to promote health and prevention of disease progression. The recent World Health Organization report highlights that digital health technologies can improve essential health information and the access to vital services, and support maternal health, thereby promoting gender equality, and women's autonomy in their care, especially in places where the access is inhibited by socioeconomical and cultural barriers.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B2">2</xref></p>
      <p>The increasing digitalization in health care represents a unique opportunity to fill those gaps, with the development of digital tools adapted to women's needs, the so called "FemTech" (female technology). However, despite their potential to solve issues related not only to social determinants in health but also to primary and secondary prevention,<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">1</xref> improving self-management in health, there are difficulties in their implementation, particularly due to socioeconomic issues and the challenge of digital illiteracy to the full adoption of digital health (DH) with mobility.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B2">2</xref></p>
      <p>The FemTech market has shown a significant increase over the past years. In 2019, the industry raised approximately 820 million dollars in global revenue and attracted 592 million dollars in investments. The market may reach 1.1 billion dollars in 2024, reflecting a growing interest in meeting women's needs.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">3</xref></p>
      <p>In the context of female health, DT not only facilitates the access to medical services, but also provides unique opportunities for empowerment, and establishment of support networks in health care and guidance, including with other countries. In addition, DT enhances women's autonomy, improving their decision-making capacity, and facilitating self-care practices and supporting personalized self-monitoring systems, including an easier access to screening programs, lifestyle changes and deeper involvement in personal health domains. Therefore, DT allows women to make more sensible decisions about health, from family-planning decisions, emotional and financial regulation, to management of chronic conditions.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B2">2</xref></p>
      <p>DT also has the potential to mitigate regional and socioeconomic disparities that have historically exerted a negative impact on women's health. In Brazil, where a significant proportion of the population faces difficulties in accessing healthcare services, digital tools have stood out as effective, relatively low-cost solutions, given the access through mobile devices, already a reality in different social classes. Examples include remote medical or multiprofessional assistance provided by large, renowned education and healthcare institutions included in the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS). Remote care is particularly relevant in distant or marginalized areas, where access to essential health care, like prenatal care and control of chronic diseases is limited.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B4">4</xref> Also, strategies like incorporation of artificial intelligence (AI) into processes, electronic medical records, and digital screening of health data, allow healthcare systems to identify population patterns and implement effective and targeted interventions focusing on gender equity.</p>
      <p>The use of DT has been strikingly innovative in the prevention and early diagnosis of women's diseases like breast cancer and cervical cancer. AI and machine learning can analyze large volumes of data to identify initial signs of diseases, with higher accuracy.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B5">5</xref> In addition, meditation apps, psychological support platforms and mindfulness tools have become more and more accessible, helping women to cope with stress, anxiety, depression, and well-being issues that affect both mental and cardiovascular health.</p>
      <p>In Brazil, DT plays a crucial role in improving the access and the quality of primary care for women. If integrated into basic health services, DT may help overcome structural challenges and promote equity in the care provided in diverse medical specialties. Some evidence has suggested that women-centered care improves health promotion, patient empowerment in self-monitoring, the quality of record keeping, and diagnostic accuracy.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B6">6</xref></p>
      <p>Although DT offers numerous opportunities, patient privacy and safety, as well as data confidentiality should be ensured, following the General Data Protection Law, to protect sensitive information.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B7">7</xref>-<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B9">9</xref></p>
      <p>One should also consider other barriers to DT implementation, including structure-related issues (the Brazilian "Digital Government" strategy has been implemented, and 100% of the cities have joined the Brazilian "SUS Digital" program), lack of professional capacity (poor digital literacy of healthcare professionals and SUS workers), lack of integration among health systems (in implementation process through the national health data system), operational costs, and patient-related barriers (poor health education, socioeconomic inequality, cultural and social resistance, lack of knowledge about the benefits of DH, and digital literacy. Consolidating the implementation process as a sequential and continuous step of technology management is crucial to overcome these barriers.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B10">10</xref></p>
      <p>In the context of DH, emerging technologies including augmented reality and virtual reality, can change the way women interact with healthcare practices. These tools can be used, for example, in medical procedure simulations, training in sexual and reproductive health, or even as therapeutical support in mental health treatment.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">1</xref>,<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B2">2</xref></p>
      <p>Therefore, DT has a huge potential to revolutionize women's health, promoting access, gender equity and empowerment. <xref ref-type="fig" rid="f3">Figure 1</xref> highlights the potential impact of the "FemTech" market, with its advantages and challenges. However, to reach its full potential in women's health, coordinated efforts of the academy, government, healthcare institutions, professionals and population are needed<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B11">11</xref> to overcome cultural, infrastructure, and digital education barriers, allowing access to all women, regardless of their geographic location or socioeconomic status.</p>
