    <p>A S&#237;ndrome P&#243;s-Covid-19 foi definida pela Organiza&#231;&#227;o Mundial da Sa&#250;de como uma &#8220;condi&#231;&#227;o que ocorre em indiv&#237;duos com hist&#243;rico de infec&#231;&#227;o prov&#225;vel ou confirmada por SARS-CoV-2, normalmente ap&#243;s tr&#234;s meses do in&#237;cio da Covid-19, com sintomas que duram pelo menos dois meses e que um diagn&#243;stico alternativo n&#227;o pode explicar&#8221;. Os principais sintomas associados a esta condi&#231;&#227;o incluem fadiga, dores musculares e articulares, falta de ar, dificuldades de sono, sintomas mentais e neurol&#243;gicos como depress&#227;o e ansiedade, perda de olfato e paladar, dor de cabe&#231;a e dificuldade de pensamento e concentra&#231;&#227;o. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">1</xref> , <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B2">2</xref> O efeito citop&#225;tico do v&#237;rus no endot&#233;lio, juntamente com o dano endotelial como consequ&#234;ncia da inflama&#231;&#227;o sist&#234;mica, tem sido associado a eventos cardiovasculares como miocardite, infarto do mioc&#225;rdio, arritmias, e eventos tromboemb&#243;licos. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">3</xref></p>
    <p>V&#225;rios estudos realizados em todo o mundo tamb&#233;m encontraram evid&#234;ncias de outros sinais e sintomas. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B4">4</xref> - <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B7">7</xref> Entretanto, a incid&#234;ncia desses sintomas tem apresentado varia&#231;&#227;o significativa devido &#224; heterogeneidade dos estudos. Essa varia&#231;&#227;o pode estar associada a fatores como o per&#237;odo de estudo p&#243;s-COVID, a regi&#227;o onde o estudo foi realizado e a gravidade da doen&#231;a. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B4">4</xref></p>
    <p>Estima-se que at&#233; 2021, 3,92 bilh&#245;es de pessoas tenham sido infectadas pelo v&#237;rus SARS-CoV-2, e 3,7% tenham desenvolvido a condi&#231;&#227;o p&#243;s-Covid-19. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">1</xref> Devido ao elevado n&#250;mero de pessoas que j&#225; foram infectadas pelo menos uma vez e as evid&#234;ncias limitadas sobre as consequ&#234;ncias que esta doen&#231;a pode ter nos pacientes, estudos prospectivos em indiv&#237;duos infectados pelo SARS-CoV-2 podem contribuir para uma melhor compreens&#227;o desta condi&#231;&#227;o, especialmente a longo prazo.</p>
    <p>O manuscrito &#8220; Qualidade de Vida Relacionada &#224; Sa&#250;de e Desfechos em Longo Prazo ap&#243;s Covid-19 Sintom&#225;tica Leve: Protocolo do Estudo P&#243;s-Covid Brasil 2&#8221; tem como objetivo avaliar fatores associados &#224; qualidade de vida dos pacientes um ano ap&#243;s infec&#231;&#227;o leve por SARS-CoV-2 no Brasil. Os autores tamb&#233;m prop&#245;em estudar os per&#237;odos de 3, 6 e 9 meses ap&#243;s a infec&#231;&#227;o. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B8">8</xref></p>
    <p>O Brasil &#233; um pa&#237;s que oferece um excelente campo de estudo para esse problema de sa&#250;de, pois possui uma das maiores incid&#234;ncias de Covid-19 no mundo. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B9">9</xref> Os estudos brasileiros abrangeram amostras regionalizadas <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B10">10</xref> - <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B13">13</xref> e estudos longitudinais com observa&#231;&#227;o de curto per&#237;odo ou desenhos transversais, <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B11">11</xref> , <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B14">14</xref> Rover et al. pretendem analisar a popula&#231;&#227;o brasileira al&#233;m do per&#237;odo de estudo de um ano. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B8">8</xref> Por&#233;m, n&#227;o ser&#227;o inclu&#237;dos centros da regi&#227;o Nordeste, e apenas um centro da regi&#227;o Centro-Oeste e um centro da regi&#227;o Norte ser&#227;o inclu&#237;dos, colocando-se assim uma limita&#231;&#227;o ao estudo. Vale ressaltar que a maior incid&#234;ncia de Covid-19 no Brasil ocorre nas regi&#245;es Sul e Centro-Oeste. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B9">9</xref></p>
    <p>Outro ponto forte deste estudo &#233; a quantidade de informa&#231;&#245;es que ser&#227;o coletadas para compreender as manifesta&#231;&#245;es das condi&#231;&#245;es p&#243;s-Covid-19. Qualidade de vida, mortalidade, complica&#231;&#245;es, sintomas, estado funcional, dados demogr&#225;ficos, comorbidades, situa&#231;&#227;o vacinal e exames laboratoriais ser&#227;o obtidos para esta avalia&#231;&#227;o. Muitas informa&#231;&#245;es ser&#227;o obtidas por meio de entrevistas telef&#244;nicas, uma estrat&#233;gia apropriada para um estudo multic&#234;ntrico. No entanto, os autores n&#227;o informaram uma dura&#231;&#227;o estimada da entrevista, e sabe-se que entrevistas longas apresentam maior risco de coleta de dados err&#244;neos devido ao cansa&#231;o do entrevistado e do entrevistador.</p>
    <p>Apesar das limita&#231;&#245;es, acreditamos que o estudo seja relevante, uma vez que os trabalhos publicados sobre condi&#231;&#245;es p&#243;s-Covid-19 se concentraram principalmente na progress&#227;o de pacientes com hist&#243;ria de infec&#231;&#227;o moderada a grave. Portanto, os dados sobre os resultados em longo prazo de pacientes que tiveram doen&#231;a leve que inclu&#237;ram indiv&#237;duos de diferentes regi&#245;es brasileiras s&#227;o escassos. Al&#233;m disso, os resultados deste estudo ir&#227;o melhorar o trabalho dos profissionais de sa&#250;de no cuidado de pacientes infectados pelo SARS-CoV-2.</p>

    <body>
      <p>The post-COVID-19 condition has been defined by the World Health Organization as a &#8220;condition that occurs in individuals with a history of probable or confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection, typically after three months from the onset of COVID-19, with symptoms lasting at least two months and that an alternative diagnosis can not explain.&#8221; The primary symptoms associated with this condition include fatigue, muscle and joint pain, shortness of breath, sleep difficulties, mental and neurological symptoms such as depression and anxiety, loss of smell and taste, headache, and difficulty in thinking and concentrating. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">1</xref> , <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B2">2</xref> The cytopathic effect of the virus on the endothelium, along with endothelial damage as a consequence of systemic inflammation, has been associated with cardiovascular events such as myocarditis, myocardial infarction, arrhythmias, and thromboembolic events. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">3</xref></p>
      <p>Various studies conducted worldwide have also found evidence of other signs and symptoms. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B4">4</xref> - <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B7">7</xref> However, the incidence of these symptoms has shown significant variation due to the heterogeneity of the studies. This variation may be associated with factors such as the post-COVID study period, the region where the study was conducted, and the severity of the disease. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B4">4</xref></p>
      <p>It is estimated that by 2021, 3.92 billion people had been infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, and 3.7% had developed the post-COVID-19 condition. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">1</xref> Due to the high number of people who have already been infected at least once and the limited evidence regarding the consequences this disease can have on patients, prospective studies in individuals infected with SARS-CoV-2 can contribute to a better understanding of this condition, especially in the long term.</p>
      <p>The manuscript &#8220;Health-related quality of life and long-term outcomes after mildly symptomatic COVID-19: The post-COVID Brazil study protocol&#8221; aims to evaluate factors associated with patients&#8217; quality of life one year after mild SARS-CoV-2 infection in Brazil. The authors also propose to study the periods of 3, 6, and 9 months after infection. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B8">8</xref></p>
      <p>Brazil is a country that provides an excellent field of study for this health issue, as it has one of the highest incidences of COVID-19 in the world. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B9">9</xref> Brazilian studies have covered regionalized samples <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B10">10</xref> - <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B13">13</xref> and longitudinal studies with a short period observation or cross-sectional designs. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B11">11</xref> , <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B14">14</xref> Rover et al. intend to analyze the Brazilian population in addition to the one-year study period. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B8">8</xref> However, centers from the Northeast region will not be included, and only one center from the Central-West and one from the North regions will be included, thus posing a limitation to the study. It is worth noting that the highest incidence of COVID-19 in Brazil occurs in the South and Central-West regions. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B9">9</xref></p>
      <p>Another strength of this study is the amount of information that will be collected to understand the manifestations of post-COVID-19 conditions. Quality of life, mortality, complications, symptoms, functional status, demographic data, comorbidities, vaccination status, and laboratory tests will be obtained for this assessment. Much information will be obtained through telephone interviews, an appropriate strategy for a multi-center study. However, the authors did not report an estimated duration of the interview, and it is known that long interviews carry a higher risk of collecting erroneous data due to interviewee and interviewer fatigue.</p>
      <p>Despite the limitations, we believe the study is relevant since the published works on post-COVID-19 conditions have mainly focused on the progression of patients with a history of moderate to severe infection. Therefore, data on the long-term outcomes of patients who had mild disease that included individuals from different Brazilian regions are scarce. Furthermore, this study&#8217;s results will enhance healthcare professionals&#8217; work in caring for patients infected with SARS-CoV-2.</p>
