  <body>
    <p>Arterial hypertension (AH) is the most prevalent chronic disease worldwide and the main risk factor for most cardio-cerebrovascular diseases.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">1</xref> The true prevalence in Brazil is still unknown, and the available data are from the Vigitel Study, where the information is obtained by telephone contact. The prevalence of hypertension in Brazil is estimated at around 31% in adult individuals.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B2">2</xref> In recent data from the Vigitel Study, the prevalence was 25.7% of the adult Brazilian population.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">3</xref> Knowledge of the real prevalence and geographic distribution is not only important for prevention and treatment measures, but also contribute to the knowledge of the genesis of the disease.</p>
    <p>In some populations, particularly individuals of African descent, AH has its own characteristics, including prevalence, therapeutic response and severity.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B4">4</xref>,<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B5">5</xref> The multifactorial aspect of AH is only understood when assessing special populations considering their own habitats and habits, as in the case of quilombolas, where individuals with African ancestry still retain some genetic and cultural characteristics of the African origin.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B6">6</xref> The analysis in this context is important, since we can detect aspects inherent to factors related to AH development.</p>
    <p>In this study,<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B6">6</xref> the prevalence of hypertension in the quilombola communities of Sergipe was 26%, with the authors reporting that the mean value in the state is much lower (20.4%).<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B7">7</xref> However, the values are very similar to those found in the Vigitel Study, which attempts to represent the Brazilian population. Regarding the risk factors for AH, in this population with a certain degree of vulnerability, the study disclosed inadequate lifestyle habits, especially physical inactivity, smoking and alcohol consumption. The quantification of salt in the diet was not accurate, as more complex tests are needed to determine the values, and the authors justify the fact by the study's own limitation.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B8">8</xref>
		</p>
    <p>Knowledge of these risk factors for both hypertension and cardiovascular events is important for the planning of health actions in these at-risk populations. This study<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B6">6</xref> has a very significant epidemiological value, as it allows social considerations and extrapolation to other quilombola communities, so that health team interventions can achieve a better cardiovascular prevention.</p>

      <p>A hipertens&#227;o arterial (HA) &#233; a doen&#231;a cr&#244;nica mais prevalente em todo o mundo e o principal fator de risco da maioria das doen&#231;as cardio cerebrovasculares.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">1</xref> A verdadeira preval&#234;ncia no Brasil ainda &#233; desconhecida, e os dados que temos adv&#234;m do Estudo Vigitel, onde as informa&#231;&#245;es s&#227;o obtidas por contato telef&#244;nico. Estima-se por volta de 31% a preval&#234;ncia da HA no Brasil em indiv&#237;duos adultos.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B2">2</xref> Em recentes dados do Estudo Vigitel, a preval&#234;ncia foi de 25,7% da popula&#231;&#227;o brasileira adulta.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">3</xref> O conhecimento da real preval&#234;ncia e a distribui&#231;&#227;o geogr&#225;fica &#233; importante n&#227;o s&#243; para medidas de preven&#231;&#227;o e tratamento, mas tamb&#233;m contribuir para o conhecimento da g&#234;nese da doen&#231;a.</p>
      <p>Algumas popula&#231;&#245;es, e em especial os indiv&#237;duos afrodescendentes, a HA apresenta caracter&#237;sticas pr&#243;prias desde preval&#234;ncia, resposta terap&#234;utica e gravidade.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B4">4</xref>,<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B5">5</xref> O aspecto multifatorial da HA s&#243; &#233; compreendido quando se avalia popula&#231;&#245;es especiais em habitats e h&#225;bitos pr&#243;prios, como no caso dos quilombolas, onde os indiv&#237;duos com ancestralidade negra ainda mant&#233;m algumas caracter&#237;sticas gen&#233;ticas e culturais da origem africana.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B6">6</xref> A an&#225;lise neste contexto tem import&#226;ncia visto que podemos detectar aspectos pr&#243;prios dos fatores relacionados com o desenvolvimento da HA.</p>
      <p>Neste estudo<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B6">6</xref> a preval&#234;ncia da HA nas comunidades quilombolas de Sergipe foi de 26%, relatando os autores que a m&#233;dia no estado &#233; bem inferior (20,4%).<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B7">7</xref> Entretanto os valores se assemelham em muito aos encontrados no Estudo Vigitel que tenta refletir a popula&#231;&#227;o brasileira. Em rela&#231;&#227;o aos fatores de risco para a HA, nesta popula&#231;&#227;o com certo grau de vulnerabilidade, o estudo evidenciou h&#225;bitos de vida inadequados principalmente a inatividade f&#237;sica, o tabagismo e consumo de &#225;lcool. A quantifica&#231;&#227;o do sal na dieta n&#227;o foi precisa, pois s&#227;o necess&#225;rios exames mais complexos para se determinar os valores, e os autores justificam o fato pela pr&#243;pria limita&#231;&#227;o do estudo.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B8">8</xref>
			</p>
      <p>O conhecimento destes fatores de risco, tanto para a HA quanto para eventos cardiovasculares &#233; importante para o planejamento de a&#231;&#245;es de sa&#250;de nestas popula&#231;&#245;es de risco. Este trabalho<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B6">6</xref> apresenta um valor epidemiol&#243;gico bastante significativo, pois permite considera&#231;&#245;es sociais e extrapola&#231;&#227;o a outras comunidades quilombolas para uma interven&#231;&#227;o de equipes de sa&#250;de para uma melhor preven&#231;&#227;o cardiovascular.</p>
