      Dear Editor,
    </p>
    <p>We read the article entitled "Lifestyle Intervention on Metabolic Syndrome and its Impact on Quality of Life: A Randomized Controlled Trial", by Saboya et al.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">1</xref> with great interest and would like to contribute with some suggestions.</p>
    <p>Firstly, regarding the method. There are no reports about the blinding of the evaluators, both for the interviews and for body mass index and waist circumference measurements. This is a factor considered a high risk of bias by the "Cochrane Collaboration's tool for assessing risk of bias"<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B2">2</xref> since the interviewers, even unconsciously, may influence the responses and their view of the participants.</p>
    <p>Secondly, regarding the results. The researchers reported that the quality of life of patients with metabolic syndrome is affected not only by the clinical picture but is also significantly affected by the presence of depression and anxiety.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">1</xref> The prevalence of depression and anxiety was 41.7% and 22.2%, respectively, and these data are not associated with the metabolic syndrome components.</p>
    <p>Anxiety and depression have often been associated with metabolic syndrome, as well as other non-transmissible chronic diseases, due to the limiting characteristic the disease has on the individuals' lives. The present study did not demonstrate this association, perhaps due to the sample size, which was too small for a study with so many stages and variables for assessment.</p>
    <p>The substantial loss of subjects may have compromised the results. Most studies<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">3</xref>,<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B4">4</xref> that associate metabolic syndrome with depression and anxiety, and also evaluate these patients' quality of life, have a larger sample size.</p>

      <p>Lemos o artigo intitulado "Interven&#231;&#227;o de Estilo de Vida na S&#237;ndrome Metab&#243;lica e seu Impacto na Qualidade de Vida: Um estudo Controlado Randomizado" de Saboya et al.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">1</xref> com grande interesse e gostar&#237;amos de contribuir com algumas sugest&#245;es.</p>
      <p>Primeiramente com rela&#231;&#227;o ao m&#233;todo. N&#227;o h&#225; relatos a cerca do cegamento dos avaliadores, tanto para as entrevistas como para as medidas de &#237;ndice de massa corporal e circunfer&#234;ncia abdominal. Esse &#233; um fator considerado de alto risco de vi&#233;s pela "Avalia&#231;&#227;o do risco de vi&#233;s de ensaios cl&#237;nicos randomizados pela ferramenta da colabora&#231;&#227;o Cochrane",<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B2">2</xref> uma vez que o entrevistador, mesmo de forma inconsciente, pode influenciar as respostas e o seu olhar sobre o participante.</p>
      <p>Em segundo com rela&#231;&#227;o aos resultados. Os investigadores relataram que a qualidade de vida dos pacientes com s&#237;ndrome metab&#243;lica &#233; afetada n&#227;o s&#243; pelo quadro cl&#237;nico, mas de forma significativa com a presen&#231;a de depress&#227;o e ansiedade.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">1</xref> A preval&#234;ncia de depress&#227;o e ansiedade foram 41,7% e 22,2%, respectivamente, e estes dados n&#227;o est&#227;o associados aos componentes da s&#237;ndrome metab&#243;lica.</p>
      <p>A ansiedade e depress&#227;o j&#225; foram muito associadas a quadros de s&#237;ndrome metab&#243;lica quanto a outras doen&#231;as cr&#244;nicas n&#227;o transmiss&#237;veis pela caracter&#237;stica limitadora que a doen&#231;a imp&#245;e a vida dos indiv&#237;duos. No presente estudo n&#227;o foi poss&#237;vel ver esta associa&#231;&#227;o, talvez pelo n&#250;mero de amostra que se caracteriza como sendo muito pequeno para um estudo com tantas etapas e vari&#225;veis para avalia&#231;&#227;o. A perda substancial de sujeitos pode ter comprometido os resultados. A maioria dos estudos<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">3</xref>,<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B4">4</xref> que associa s&#237;ndrome metab&#243;lica a depress&#227;o e ansiedade, bem como avalia a qualidade de vida desses pacientes, apresenta n&#250;mero de amostra mais expressivos.</p>
