  <body>
    <p>Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) remain the leading cause of death worldwide. According to estimates by the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 17.9 million individuals die per year due to this clinical condition.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">1</xref> In Brazil, a registry of the Brazilian Society of Cardiology shows an increase in mortality over the years, affecting 383,961 individuals in 2017.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B2">2</xref>
		</p>
    <p>Considering the strong association of CVD with morbidity and mortality, as well as the impairment of functional capacity and quality of life shown by these patients, strategies aimed at minimizing these impairments and that can be shown to be cost-effective should be implemented. In this scenario, cardiovascular rehabilitation (CVR) is crucial and should be part of the overall treatment of CVD.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">3</xref>
		</p>
    <p>The WHO defines CVR as "the sum of activities required to ensure people with CVD have the best possible physical, mental and social conditions, so that the patients may, by their own efforts, preserve or resume when lost as normal a place as possible in the society."<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B4">4</xref> According to the South-American Guideline for Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation,<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">3</xref> for this process to be feasible and for the objectives to be attained, the integrated performance of a multidisciplinary team is required. Physical training, associated with drug treatment, is the central component of CVR. However, the professionals' performance is not restricted to creating the plan and applying the exercises. Special attention should also be given to the patients' full education regarding their health condition and appropriate management of risk factors, aiming at having a healthy lifestyle.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">3</xref> Specific characteristics of each patient, such as socioeconomic and educational levels, may influence the prior knowledge and understanding of information provided by professionals. In this sense, tools that evaluate the patients' knowledge regarding their health condition are useful and can help the professionals to create and apply effective strategies.</p>
    <p>Recently, the validation of the Portuguese version of the Coronary Artery Disease Education Questionnaire - Short Version (CADE-Q SV) was published in this journal.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B5">5</xref> This questionnaire assesses the knowledge of CVD patients regarding their health condition, including the clinical aspects, risk factors, exercise, diet and psychosocial risk. Concerning the previously validated questionnaires (CADE-Q and CADE-Q II),<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B6">6</xref>,<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B7">7</xref> the new proposal maintains the assessment of central components of CVR, with differences being related to the fact that it is a more concise tool that can be applied in ten minutes, as reported by the researchers. The short time required, and the objective profile of the response options may favor the applicability of this tool in research and clinical practice, providing relevant information for better targeting of interventions in secondary prevention in Brazil.</p>
    <p>It has been previously shown that the context in which the subject is placed can influence their knowledge about health. In a previous study, using the pioneer CADE-Q version, the researchers found that CVR participants in Brazil had lower levels of knowledge about their condition when compared to Canadian patients.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B8">8</xref>
		</p>
    <p>In the most recent CADE-Q SV validation study, outpatients who did not necessarily participate in a formal CVR program were included. The area identified with greater knowledge was that related to risk factors and the one with the lowest score was that related to psychosocial risk. Overall, the patients showed a low level of knowledge, and those with lower educational level, as well as those with family income, showed significantly higher needs. On the other hand, characteristics such as age younger than 65 years and previous infarction or arrhythmia were associated with significantly higher level of knowledge.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B6">6</xref>
		</p>
    <p>CADE-Q SV is a short, valid and reliable tool to evaluate the knowledge of CVD patients in Brazil. It can be useful in the characterization of groups of patients and especially in the identification of each individual's specific needs, allowing the implementation of targeted educational strategies. Therefore, it is a potential tool to be used in secondary prevention and should be tested and administered in different health programs and regions of our country. After applying the questionnaire, it is recommended that the professionals clarify doubts about the answers to the patients, in order to help in the process of learning and health care.</p>

      <p>As doen&#231;as cardiovasculares (DCV) permanecem como a principal causa de morte no mundo. Segundo estimativa da Organiza&#231;&#227;o Mundial da Sa&#250;de (OMS), aproximadamente 17,9 milh&#245;es de indiv&#237;duos morrem por ano devido &#224; esta condi&#231;&#227;o cl&#237;nica.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">1</xref> No Brasil, registro da Sociedade Brasileira de Cardiologia, demonstra aumento na mortalidade ao longo dos anos, acometendo em 2017, 383.961 indiv&#237;duos.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B2">2</xref>
			</p>
      <p>Tendo em vista a forte associa&#231;&#227;o das DCV com morbimortalidade e o preju&#237;zo na capacidade funcional e qualidade de vida apresentada pelos pacientes, estrat&#233;gias que minimizem estes comprometimentos e se mostrem custo-efetivas devem ser implementadas. Neste cen&#225;rio, a reabilita&#231;&#227;o cardiovascular (RCV) &#233; fundamental, devendo ser integrada no tratamento global das DCV.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">3</xref>
			</p>
      <p>A OMS defini a RCV como "o conjunto de atividades necess&#225;rias para assegurar &#224;s pessoas com DCV condi&#231;&#227;o f&#237;sica, mental e social &#243;tima, que lhes permita ocupar pelos seus pr&#243;prios meios um lugar t&#227;o normal quanto seja poss&#237;vel na sociedade".<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B4">4</xref> De acordo com a Diretriz Sul-Americana de Preven&#231;&#227;o e Reabilita&#231;&#227;o Cardiovascular,<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">3</xref> para que este processo seja poss&#237;vel e os objetivos atingidos, &#233; necess&#225;ria a atua&#231;&#227;o integrada de uma equipe multidisciplinar. O treinamento f&#237;sico, associado ao tratamento medicamentoso, &#233; o componente central da RCV. No entanto, a atua&#231;&#227;o dos profissionais n&#227;o se restringe &#224; elabora&#231;&#227;o do plano e aplica&#231;&#227;o dos exerc&#237;cios. Aten&#231;&#227;o especial tamb&#233;m deve ser dada a educa&#231;&#227;o completa do paciente em rela&#231;&#227;o &#224; sua condi&#231;&#227;o de sa&#250;de e adequado manejo dos fatores de risco, visando a ado&#231;&#227;o de um estilo de vida saud&#225;vel.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">3</xref> Caracter&#237;sticas peculiares de cada paciente, como n&#237;vel socioecon&#244;mico e educacional, podem influenciar no conhecimento pr&#233;vio e na compreens&#227;o das informa&#231;&#245;es fornecidas pelos profissionais. Neste sentido, ferramentas que avaliem o conhecimento do paciente sobre a sua condi&#231;&#227;o de sa&#250;de s&#227;o &#250;teis e podem auxiliar os profissionais na elabora&#231;&#227;o e condu&#231;&#227;o de estrat&#233;gias efetivas.</p>
      <p>Recentemente foi publicado nesta revista a valida&#231;&#227;o da vers&#227;o em portugu&#234;s do Coronary Artery Disease Education Questionnaire Short Version (CADE-Q SV).<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B5">5</xref> Este question&#225;rio avalia o conhecimento dos pacientes com DCV sobre a sua condi&#231;&#227;o de sa&#250;de abrangendo aspectos cl&#237;nicos, fatores de risco, exerc&#237;cio, dieta e risco psicossocial. Em rela&#231;&#227;o aos question&#225;rios previamente validados (CADE-Q e CADE-Q II),<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B6">6</xref>,<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B7">7</xref> a nova proposta mant&#233;m a avalia&#231;&#227;o de componentes centrais na RCV, diferenciando-se por ser uma ferramenta mais sucinta e poss&#237;vel de ser aplicada em dez minutos, conforme relatado pelos pesquisadores. O curto tempo requerido e o perfil objetivo das op&#231;&#245;es de reposta, podem favorecer a aplicabilidade deste instrumento na pesquisa e pr&#225;tica cl&#237;nica, fornecendo informa&#231;&#245;es relevantes para o melhor direcionamento de interven&#231;&#245;es na preven&#231;&#227;o secund&#225;ria no Brasil.</p>
      <p>J&#225; foi demonstrado que o contexto em que o sujeito est&#225; inserido pode influenciar no seu conhecimento sobre a sa&#250;de. Em estudo pr&#233;vio, utilizando a vers&#227;o pioneira CADE-Q, os pesquisadores verificaram que participantes de RCV no Brasil apresentaram n&#237;veis inferiores de conhecimento sobre a sua condi&#231;&#227;o do que os pacientes canadenses.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B8">8</xref> No estudo mais recente de valida&#231;&#227;o do CADE-Q SV, foram inclu&#237;dos pacientes ambulatoriais, que n&#227;o necessariamente participavam de um programa formal de RCV. A &#225;rea identificada com maior conhecimento foi a de fatores de risco e a de menor pontua&#231;&#227;o a de risco psicossocial. De maneira geral, verificou-se baixo n&#237;vel de conhecimento apresentado pelos pacientes, sendo que aqueles com menor n&#237;vel educacional, assim como os de menor renda familiar, apresentaram necessidades significativamente maiores. Em contrapartida, caracter&#237;sticas como idade menor que 65 anos e infarto pr&#233;vio ou arritmia mostraram-se associados com conhecimento significativamente maior.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B6">6</xref>
			</p>
      <p>O CADE-Q SV &#233; um instrumento curto, v&#225;lido e confi&#225;vel para avaliar o conhecimento de pacientes com DCV no Brasil. Poder&#225; ser &#250;til na caracteriza&#231;&#227;o de grupos de pacientes e especialmente na identifica&#231;&#227;o de necessidades espec&#237;ficas de cada indiv&#237;duo, possibilitando a promo&#231;&#227;o de estrat&#233;gias educativas direcionadas. Sendo assim, &#233; uma potencial ferramenta a ser utilizada na preven&#231;&#227;o secund&#225;ria, devendo ainda ser testada e administrada em diferentes programas de sa&#250;de e regi&#245;es do nosso pa&#237;s. Ap&#243;s a aplica&#231;&#227;o do question&#225;rio, recomenda-se aos profissionais o esclarecimento sobre as respostas aos pacientes, a fim de auxiliar no processo de aprendizagem e cuidados com a sa&#250;de.</p>
