    <p>When we took over as Editor-in-Chief of Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia in January 2010, the journal was more than 60 years old and had already attained complete maturity from the huge work developed by the great masters of the Brazilian cardiology who had preceded us as Editors. Present in the most relevant international citation indexing services, the Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia is the major outreach channel of the Brazilian scientific research in cardiovascular diseases, representing the major asset of the Brazilian Society of Cardiology. Several suggestions were implanted aimed at consolidating our editorial structure and reaching the position as the major scientific forum in cardiology in Latin America.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">1</xref>
		</p>
    <p>In the past eight years, the trajectory of the Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia was characterized mainly by actions to improve its editorial process and to incorporate new edition technologies and new digital media. To face the great demand of the manuscripts submitted to publishing, which nowadays add up to 500 articles per year, the Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia improved their electronic submission system and the review and editing processes, ensuring faster responses to the authors and better editorial quality publishing of the articles selected. Currently, the mean time of assessment and correction of the articles is around four months, while that time for Portuguese and English language publications is around four to five months. In addition, we provide the authors with the previous publishing of their articles in PubMed within less than eight months from their initial submission, guaranteeing the researchers the fast insertion of their work in the international literature. In parallel, we strived to incorporate the major editorial practices of the most prestigious international journals, such as the policies recommended by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and the Association of the Editors of the European Society of Cardiology-affiliated journals, in addition to the inclusion of processes of language review, statistical review and antiplagiarism. Available in the electronic pdf format since 2011, the Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia have counted since July 2012 with formats compatible with most tablets and smartphones, facilitating integral access to the journal in the major electronic media access systems.</p>
    <p>Over those eight years, the Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia received more than 4700 scientific article submissions, being responsible for publishing 1813 articles between 2010 and 2017, of which, 1014 (56%) were contributions and 101 (6%) were review articles (<xref ref-type="fig" rid="f1">Figure 1</xref>). <xref ref-type="fig" rid="f2">Figure 2</xref> shows the distribution of the articles published according to their area, under the responsibility of ten Associated Editors. The articles related to clinical cardiology, including the follow-up of patients with several illnesses, such as coronary artery disease and heart failure, represented 25% of the total number of articles published by the Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia. Studies on basic research and diagnostic methods corresponded to more than 25% of the publications, while the other areas approached by the journal, such as epidemiology, hypertension, interventional cardiology, surgical cardiology, cardiac arrhythmias, pediatric cardiology and rehabilitation exercise, accounted for 4% to 11% of the manuscripts accepted. Those numbers represent one third of the articles submitted, with acceptance indices of 29% for original articles and 34% for review articles.</p>

    <p>Approximately 80% of the articles published were submitted by Brazilian researchers, and more than 50% originated from postgraduation programs in Brazil. It is worth noting that, of the 3000 original articles published by Brazilian authors in journals indexed by the Thomson Reuters in the Web of Science database in cardiology and cardiovascular sciences between 2010 and 2017, 24% were published by the Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia, evidencing the importance of that journal for the Brazilian cardiology.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B2">2</xref> However, the number of articles submitted by researchers from other countries and studies developed in international collaboration has progressively increased over the years, written mainly by researchers from the United States, Portugal, Turkey, Spain, China and Canada (<xref ref-type="fig" rid="f3">Figure 3</xref>). In addition, the significant elevation in the number of scientific articles currently submitted for publishing, resulting from the growing national and international scientific production, has progressively increased the rejection index of articles submitted by Brazilian researchers to the Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia, hindering the publishing of dissertations and theses originating from Brazilian postgraduation programs in journals with international citation indexing.</p>

    </p>
    <p>With the rise in the Brazilian and Latin-American scientific production on cardiology and cardiovascular sciences in the past decade, our rank in the international scenario improved, increasing the perspective of enhancing the qualification of our journals.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">3</xref> However, the first impact factor of the Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia was published in 2010, according to the database of the Journal Citation Reports of Thomson Reuters,<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B4">4</xref> and that factor remained stable over the past eight years, without a high citation rate of the journal itself (<xref ref-type="fig" rid="f4">Figure 4</xref>). This occurred despite the progressive elevation in the number of citations attained by the articles published in Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia, and it is worth noting that such elevation resulted from the increase in citations of foreign authors (<xref ref-type="fig" rid="f5">Figure 5</xref>).</p>

    </p>
    <p>The lack of increase in the impact factor of the Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia, similarly to what occurred with most journals published in Brazil, can be explained by the fact that the scientifically better qualified articles from Brazilian authors are mainly published in foreign journals, and that choice is justified by the higher impact factor of such journals.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B5">5</xref> However, the citation indices attained by articles from Brazilian authors are lower than the international mean, even when published in journals of higher impact, indicating the need for higher appreciation of the journals published in Brazil, and this cannot represent a limitation for the dissemination of the articles published.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B6">6</xref>,<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B7">7</xref>
		</p>
    <p>However, it is worth considering the current existence of a large number of articles from Brazilian authors of significant scientific merit in cardiology, which is left with no appropriate outreach channel when rejected by the Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia. With that in mind, four years ago, an increase in Brazilian cardiology publications under the responsibility of the Brazilian Society of Cardiology was proposed, with the formation of a family of journals, similarly to the major international journals. This initiative, which began with the transformation of the Department of Cardiovascular Image journal into the ABC Imagem journal, was not successful because of the submission of a reduced number of articles related to each specific area of knowledge, in addition to the difficulty of its indexing attributed to maintaining the journal&#8217;s name in Portuguese.</p>
    <p>Contacting several Editors of international journals and the leaders of SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online), the major Latin-American platform for indexing and scientific journals, evidenced the need for a new journal with an English name and totally written in English, which is currently required for attaining indexing in the major international access systems. However, the scientific publications from countries with specific cultural characteristics, such as Portuguese-speaking countries, should be guided by policies that consider not only the need for wide content dissemination at international level but also the appropriate dissemination among their professional community members.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B8">8</xref> We identified that our leaders and associates wanted to maintain the name of our major journal in Portuguese, going along with the preservation of its 70 years of history and the perspective to continue to have its content disseminated to all Brazilian cardiologists.</p>
    <p>In the beginning of 2016, the Board of the Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia (CONDARQ) defined the feasibility of a new journal with an English name and written in English, as well as the maintenance of the current characteristics of our major journal. This, following the guidance of the SciELO leaders, would open the perspective of rapid indexing of the new journal, which would remain affiliated to the Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia, although having its own name, and there would be no competition between the associated journals, despite the similar content of the publications. This is ensured by the joint administration of both journals by the Brazilian Society of Cardiology, by the common policies of submission and peer review, and by the different levels of indexing and impact factors of the journals. In addition, the joint management of the journals reduces the financial costs of their maintenance, increases agility and sharing of the editorial and peer-review processes, magnifies their visibility due to the concomitant dissemination of their contents, in addition to encouraging the scientific debate related to the studies published.</p>
    <p>Based on those arguments, the CONDARQ decided to incorporate the International Journal of Cardiovascular Sciences, then published by the Rio de Janeiro State Society of Cardiology, into the Brazilian Society of Cardiology. As predicted in the SciELO guidance, the incorporation of the new journal into the Brazilian Society of Cardiology facilitated its final indexing in that international platform, which happened less than one year from the beginning of the process mentioned, opening the perspective of its rapid indexing by the PubMed, PubMed Central and Scopus systems.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B9">9</xref>
		</p>
    <p>During 2016, the bases for transferring the editorial process of the International Journal of Cardiovascular Sciences to the group responsible for the Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia were defined, and both journals were integrated, with the construction of common access pages and submission systems. The priority of the Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia regarding the manuscript submission system was defined, as were the mechanisms to direct at the International Journal of Cardiovascular Sciences those relevant manuscripts whose publishing was rejected by the major journal. This mechanism accounted for the referral of more than 150 articles to the new journal in the past 15 months, contributing to its regular publishing and to indexing a significant number of Brazilian articles, which otherwise would not have the perspective of rapid dissemination in indexed international journals, many of them originating from postgraduation programs. Finally, the future Editors-in-Chief of both journals were concomitantly approved through an exam-based selection process for the 2018-2021 period, and aspects regarding the interaction between the journals were considered during the process. The definitive implantation of that project, following the instructions of the major international indexing systems, awaits final approval by the Brazilian Society of Cardiology, leaving that important perspective still open.</p>
    <p>Based on the trajectory of the Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia in the past eight years, we claim that we hand a structured journal over to the Brazilian Society of Cardiology, in accordance with the editorial recommendations followed by the major international scientific journals, with adequate agility and infrastructure to keep its position as the major outreach channel of the Brazilian cardiology and cardiovascular science. However, we could neither effectively internationalize it, nor complete the restructuring process of the Brazilian Society of Cardiology publishing policies, which is undoubtedly fundamental for the scientific growth of cardiology and for the formation of new researchers through new postgraduation programs.</p>
    <p>By concluding the challenging mission of conducting the Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia during the 2010-2017 period, we leave an even greater challenge to the next Editor. The future expectations of that journal include the continuing growth of its internationalizing process, increasing the participation of the Associated Editors, reviewers and foreign authors. However, this should happen without putting aside the mission of the Brazilian Society of Cardiology scientific publishing, which continues to represent the major outreach channel of the Brazilian cardiology and cardiovascular sciences.</p>

      <p>Quando assumimos a posi&#231;&#227;o de Editor-Chefe dos Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia em janeiro de 2010, nos deparamos com um peri&#243;dico de mais de 60 anos de exist&#234;ncia, que j&#225; tinha atingido sua completa maturidade a partir do gigantesco trabalho desenvolvido pelos grandes mestres da cardiologia nacional que nos antecederam como editores. Figurando em todos os indexadores internacionais de maior relev&#226;ncia, os Arquivos constitu&#237;am o principal ve&#237;culo de divulga&#231;&#227;o das pesquisas cient&#237;ficas brasileiras na &#225;rea das doen&#231;as cardiovasculares, representando o maior patrim&#244;nio da Sociedade Brasileira de Cardiologia. Nesse contexto, v&#225;rias propostas foram implantadas com o objetivo de consolidarmos nossa estrutura editorial e alcan&#231;armos a posi&#231;&#227;o de principal f&#243;rum cient&#237;fico em cardiologia da Am&#233;rica Latina.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">1</xref>
			</p>
      <p>A trajet&#243;ria dos Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia nos &#250;ltimos oito anos caracterizou-se principalmente por a&#231;&#245;es relacionadas &#224; melhora de seu processo editorial e pela incorpora&#231;&#227;o de novas tecnologias de edi&#231;&#227;o e de novas m&#237;dias digitais. Para fazer frente &#224; grande demanda de artigos submetidos para publica&#231;&#227;o, que hoje somam mais de 500 artigos por ano, os Arquivos passaram a melhorar o seu sistema de submiss&#227;o eletr&#244;nica e os processos de revis&#227;o e de editora&#231;&#227;o, garantindo respostas mais r&#225;pidas aos autores e uma publica&#231;&#227;o de melhor qualidade editorial para os artigos selecionados. Atualmente, o prazo m&#233;dio de avalia&#231;&#227;o e corre&#231;&#227;o dos artigos &#233; de cerca de quatro meses, enquanto o prazo de publica&#231;&#227;o nas l&#237;nguas portuguesa e inglesa situa-se ao redor de quatro a cinco meses, sendo ainda proporcionada aos autores a publica&#231;&#227;o pr&#233;via de seu artigo no PubMed num prazo de menos de oito meses a partir de sua submiss&#227;o inicial, garantindo aos pesquisadores a r&#225;pida inser&#231;&#227;o de seu trabalho na literatura internacional. Paralelamente, trabalhamos na incorpora&#231;&#227;o das principais pr&#225;ticas editoriais empregadas pelos peri&#243;dicos internacionais de maior prest&#237;gio, como as pol&#237;ticas recomendadas pelo International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) e pela Associa&#231;&#227;o de Editores dos peri&#243;dicos filiados &#224; European Society of Cardiology, al&#233;m da inclus&#227;o de processos de revis&#227;o de linguagem, de revis&#227;o estat&#237;stica e antipl&#225;gio. Dispon&#237;vel em formato eletr&#244;nico em pdf desde 2011, os Arquivos tamb&#233;m passaram a contar desde julho de 2012 com formatos compat&#237;veis com os principais tabletes e smartphones, possibilitando o acesso ao peri&#243;dico de forma integral nos principais sistemas de acesso &#224; m&#237;dia eletr&#244;nica.</p>
      <p>Tendo recebido ao longo desta gest&#227;o mais de 4700 artigos cient&#237;ficos submetidos para publica&#231;&#227;o, os Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia foram respons&#225;veis pela publica&#231;&#227;o de 1813 artigos entre 2010 e 2017, sendo 1014 contribui&#231;&#245;es originais (56%) e 101 artigos de revis&#227;o (6%), como mostra a <xref ref-type="fig" rid="f6">Figura 1</xref>. Na <xref ref-type="fig" rid="f7">Figura 2</xref>, podemos observar a distribui&#231;&#227;o dos artigos publicados de acordo com sua &#225;rea de inser&#231;&#227;o, o que esteve sob a responsabilidade de dez Editores-Associados. Podemos observar que os artigos relacionados a aspectos da cardiologia cl&#237;nica, incluindo o acompanhamento de pacientes portadores de diversas afec&#231;&#245;es, como a doen&#231;a arterial coron&#225;ria e a insufici&#234;ncia card&#237;aca, representaram cerca de 25% do total de artigos divulgados pelos Arquivos. Trabalhos relacionados &#224; pesquisa b&#225;sica e ao estudo de m&#233;todos diagn&#243;sticos corresponderam a mais 25% das publica&#231;&#245;es, enquanto que as outras &#225;reas abordadas pelo peri&#243;dico, como epidemiologia, hipertens&#227;o, cardiologia intervencionista, cardiologia cir&#250;rgica, arritmias card&#237;acas, cardiologia pedi&#225;trica e exerc&#237;cio e reabilita&#231;&#227;o, representaram de 4% a 11% dos manuscritos aceitos para publica&#231;&#227;o. Os n&#250;meros apresentados destacam a publica&#231;&#227;o de cerca de um ter&#231;o dos artigos submetidos, tendo sido observados &#237;ndices de aceita&#231;&#227;o de 29% para os artigos originais e de 34% para os artigos de revis&#227;o.</p>

      <p>Cerca de 80% dos artigos publicados foram encaminhados por pesquisadores brasileiros, sendo mais de 50% oriundos dos programas de p&#243;s-gradua&#231;&#227;o de nosso pa&#237;s. Nesse sentido, &#233; de grande relev&#226;ncia o fato de que, entre cerca de 3000 artigos originais publicados por autores brasileiros em peri&#243;dicos indexados pela Thomson Reuters na base de dados do Web of Science, na &#225;rea da cardiologia e ci&#234;ncias cardiovasculares, entre 2010 e 2017, em torno de 24% foram veiculados pelos Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia, deixando clara a import&#226;ncia do peri&#243;dico para a ci&#234;ncia cardiol&#243;gica brasileira.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B2">2</xref> Por outro lado, o n&#250;mero de artigos encaminhados por pesquisadores de outros pa&#237;ses e de trabalhos desenvolvidos em colabora&#231;&#227;o internacional tem aumentado progressivamente ao longo dos anos, sendo escritos principalmente por pesquisadores dos Estados Unidos, Portugal, Turquia, Espanha, China e Canad&#225; (<xref ref-type="fig" rid="f8">Figura 3</xref>). Esse fato, associado &#224; significativa eleva&#231;&#227;o do n&#250;mero de artigos cient&#237;ficos submetidos atualmente para publica&#231;&#227;o, ocasionado pelo aumento da produ&#231;&#227;o cient&#237;fica nacional e internacional, tem elevado progressivamente o &#237;ndice de rejei&#231;&#227;o de artigos submetidos por pesquisadores brasileiros pelos Arquivos, dificultando a publica&#231;&#227;o inclusive de disserta&#231;&#245;es e teses oriundas de programas brasileiros de p&#243;s-gradua&#231;&#227;o em peri&#243;dicos de indexa&#231;&#227;o internacional.</p>

      <p>Com a ascens&#227;o da produ&#231;&#227;o cient&#237;fica brasileira e de pa&#237;ses latino-americanos em cardiologia e em ci&#234;ncias cardiovasculares observada na &#250;ltima d&#233;cada, passamos a ocupar posi&#231;&#227;o de maior relev&#226;ncia no cen&#225;rio internacional, abrindo a perspectiva de uma amplia&#231;&#227;o da qualifica&#231;&#227;o de nossos peri&#243;dicos.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">3</xref> No entanto, a partir da publica&#231;&#227;o do primeiro fator de impacto dos Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia em 2010, de acordo com a base de dados do Journal Citation Reports da Thomson Reuters,<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B4">4</xref> observamos a manuten&#231;&#227;o de &#237;ndices semelhantes daquele par&#226;metro ao longo dos &#250;ltimos oito anos, sem que houvesse uma participa&#231;&#227;o elevada de cita&#231;&#245;es do pr&#243;prio peri&#243;dico (<xref ref-type="fig" rid="f9">Figura 4</xref>). <p>Por outro lado, temos que considerar atualmente a exist&#234;ncia de um grande n&#250;mero de artigos de autores brasileiros com m&#233;rito cient&#237;fico consider&#225;vel no &#226;mbito da cardiologia, que n&#227;o encontram ve&#237;culos adequados de divulga&#231;&#227;o, quando s&#227;o recusados pelos Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia. Nesse contexto, foi apresentada h&#225; quatro anos a proposta de amplia&#231;&#227;o das publica&#231;&#245;es nacionais em cardiologia sob a responsabilidade da Sociedade Brasileira de Cardiologia, com a forma&#231;&#227;o de uma fam&#237;lia de peri&#243;dicos, &#224; semelhan&#231;a das principais revistas internacionais. Essa iniciativa, que come&#231;ou com a transforma&#231;&#227;o da revista do Departamento de Imagem Cardiovascular no peri&#243;dico ABC Imagem, n&#227;o obteve sucesso por causa da submiss&#227;o de um n&#250;mero reduzido de artigos relacionados a cada uma das &#225;reas espec&#237;ficas do conhecimento e pela dificuldade de sua indexa&#231;&#227;o por causa da manuten&#231;&#227;o do nome da publica&#231;&#227;o em portugu&#234;s.</p>
      <p>Ap&#243;s diversos contatos com editores de peri&#243;dicos de publica&#231;&#227;o internacional e com a dire&#231;&#227;o do SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online), principal plataforma latino-americana de indexa&#231;&#227;o e disponibiliza&#231;&#227;o de revistas cient&#237;ficas, ficou clara a necessidade de termos um novo peri&#243;dico com nome e conte&#250;do totalmente em l&#237;ngua inglesa, situa&#231;&#227;o atualmente obrigat&#243;ria para a obten&#231;&#227;o da indexa&#231;&#227;o nos principais sistemas de acesso internacionais. No entanto, as publica&#231;&#245;es cient&#237;ficas oriundas de pa&#237;ses com carater&#237;sticas culturais espec&#237;ficas, como os pa&#237;ses de l&#237;ngua portuguesa, devem ser guiadas por pol&#237;ticas que levem em conta tanto a necessidade de ampla divulga&#231;&#227;o de seu conte&#250;do em n&#237;vel internacional, como tamb&#233;m a sua adequada divulga&#231;&#227;o entre os membros de sua pr&#243;pria comunidade profissional.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B8">8</xref> Nesse sentido, foi observado o desejo da manuten&#231;&#227;o do nome de nosso principal peri&#243;dico em portugu&#234;s, por parte de nossos dirigentes e associados, colaborando com a preserva&#231;&#227;o de seus 70 anos de hist&#243;ria e com a perspectiva de continuar a ter o seu conte&#250;do veiculado para a totalidade dos cardiologistas brasileiros.</p>
      <p>No in&#237;cio de 2016, foi ent&#227;o definida pelo Conselho dos Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia (CONDARQ) a viabiliza&#231;&#227;o de um novo peri&#243;dico com nome e conte&#250;do em ingl&#234;s, associado &#224; manuten&#231;&#227;o de nossa principal revista com as suas caracter&#237;sticas atuais. Essa proposta, seguindo orienta&#231;&#227;o da presid&#234;ncia do SciELO, abriria a perspectiva de uma r&#225;pida indexa&#231;&#227;o do novo peri&#243;dico, o qual permaneceria filiado aos Arquivos, apesar de ter uma denomina&#231;&#227;o pr&#243;pria, n&#227;o existindo competi&#231;&#227;o entre os peri&#243;dicos associados, mesmo na presen&#231;a de um conte&#250;do semelhante de publica&#231;&#245;es. Esse fato &#233; garantido pela administra&#231;&#227;o conjunta das duas revistas pela mesma Sociedade Brasileira de Cardiologia, pelas pol&#237;ticas comuns de submiss&#227;o e de revis&#227;o por pares, e pelos diferentes n&#237;veis de indexa&#231;&#227;o e de impacto relacionados aos peri&#243;dicos. Por outro lado, a administra&#231;&#227;o conjunta das revistas proporciona diminui&#231;&#227;o dos custos financeiros relacionados &#224; sua manuten&#231;&#227;o, maior agilidade e compartilhamento do processo editorial e de revis&#227;o por pares, amplia&#231;&#227;o de sua visibilidade pela divulga&#231;&#227;o concomitante de seus conte&#250;dos e maior incentivo ao debate cient&#237;fico relacionado aos temas abordados pelos trabalhos publicados.</p>
      <p>Com base nos argumentos acima mencionados, o CONDARQ decidiu a incorpora&#231;&#227;o do Internacional Journal of Cardiovascular Sciences, peri&#243;dico na ocasi&#227;o publicado pela Sociedade de Cardiologia do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, pela Sociedade Brasileira de Cardiologia. De acordo com as orienta&#231;&#245;es do SciELO, a incorpora&#231;&#227;o do novo peri&#243;dico pela Sociedade Brasileira de Cardiologia facilitou sua indexa&#231;&#227;o final por aquela plataforma internacional, fato ocorrido em menos de um ano ap&#243;s o in&#237;cio do processo mencionado, abrindo-se a perspectiva de sua r&#225;pida indexa&#231;&#227;o agora tamb&#233;m nos sistemas PubMed, PubMed Central e Scopus.<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B9">9</xref>
			</p>
      <p>Durante o ano de 2016, foram definidas as bases da transfer&#234;ncia do processo editorial do Internacional Journal of Cardiovascular Sciences para o grupo respons&#225;vel pelos Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia, procedendo-se a seguir &#224; integra&#231;&#227;o dos dois peri&#243;dicos, com a constru&#231;&#227;o de p&#225;ginas de acesso e de sistemas de submiss&#227;o comuns. Foi definida a prioridade dos Arquivos com rela&#231;&#227;o ao sistema de submiss&#227;o de artigos e os mecanismos de encaminhamento dos manuscritos de relev&#226;ncia recusados para publica&#231;&#227;o na revista principal para o International Journal. Esse mecanismo foi respons&#225;vel pelo encaminhamento de mais de 150 artigos para a nova revista nos &#250;ltimos 15 meses, colaborando com a manuten&#231;&#227;o da regularidade da sua publica&#231;&#227;o e com a publica&#231;&#227;o indexada de um n&#250;mero significativo de artigos brasileiros, que anteriormente n&#227;o teriam uma perspectiva de r&#225;pida divulga&#231;&#227;o em peri&#243;dicos indexados em n&#237;vel internacional, sendo grande parte deles oriundos de programas de P&#243;s-Gradua&#231;&#227;o. Finalmente, procedeu-se &#224; escolha por concurso, realizado de maneira concomitante, dos futuros Editores-Chefes das duas revistas para o per&#237;odo de 2018 a 2021, sendo valorizados durante o processo aspectos relacionados &#224; intera&#231;&#227;o entre os peri&#243;dicos. A implanta&#231;&#227;o definitiva desse projeto, fundamentado nas orienta&#231;&#245;es dos principais indexadores internacionais, continua a aguardar sua aprova&#231;&#227;o final pela Sociedade Brasileira de Cardiologia, deixando ainda em aberto essa importante perspectiva.</p>
      <p>A partir dos dados apresentados a respeito da trajet&#243;ria dos Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia nos &#250;ltimos oito anos, podemos concluir que entregamos &#224; Sociedade Brasileira de Cardiologia um peri&#243;dico estruturado de acordo com as recomenda&#231;&#245;es editoriais seguidas pelos principais peri&#243;dicos cient&#237;ficos internacionais, com a agilidade e a infraestrutura adequadas para a manuten&#231;&#227;o de sua posi&#231;&#227;o como principal ve&#237;culo de divulga&#231;&#227;o da ci&#234;ncia brasileira em cardiologia e ci&#234;ncias cardiovasculares. No entanto, n&#227;o conseguimos alcan&#231;ar sua efetiva internacionaliza&#231;&#227;o, bem como finalizar o processo de reestrutura&#231;&#227;o da pol&#237;tica de publica&#231;&#245;es da Sociedade Brasileira de Cardiologia, o que &#233; sem d&#250;vida fundamental para a continuidade do crescimento cient&#237;fico de nossa especialidade e para a forma&#231;&#227;o de novos pesquisadores por meio de nossos programas de P&#243;s-Gradua&#231;&#227;o.</p>
      <p>Ao concluirmos a desafiadora miss&#227;o da condu&#231;&#227;o dos Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia no per&#237;odo de 2010 a 2017, sem d&#250;vida deixamos para o pr&#243;ximo Editor um desafio ainda maior. As expectativas futuras do peri&#243;dico incluem a continuidade do crescimento de seu processo de internacionaliza&#231;&#227;o, com a amplia&#231;&#227;o da participa&#231;&#227;o de editores associados, revisores e autores estrangeiros. No entanto, essa evolu&#231;&#227;o dever&#225; ocorrer sem deixar de lado o compromisso das publica&#231;&#245;es cient&#237;ficas da Sociedade Brasileira de Cardiologia continuarem a representar o principal ve&#237;culo de divulga&#231;&#227;o da ci&#234;ncia brasileira no &#226;mbito da cardiologia e das ci&#234;ncias cardiovasculares.</p>
